Get to Know Danny Alvarez


Daniel A. Alvarez, Sr. is a first-generation American born and raised in Florida.  Known to his friends and clients as Danny, he is community leader, motivational speaker and currently serves as a member of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Chad Chronister.

His family escaped communist Cuba seeking freedom and opportunity in the United States. After high school, Danny attended the University of Florida as a second generation Gator and received his Bachelor’s of science in Journalism. While there, he was the Captain of the UF Club Lacrosse Team and the Cadet R.O.T.C. Battalion Commander. During his tenure in Gainesville, Danny served in the Florida National Guard with the 124th Infantry Regiment in Leesburg, Florida.

Upon graduation, Danny was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in the United States Army. During his time in the military, Danny was deployed to South Korea as a line platoon leader and later assigned to various leadership positions within the US Army Airborne School. While there, he was a jumping member of the historic Fort Benning Command Exhibition Parachute Team, “The Silver Wings.” Before he separated from the service, he earned a Masters of Science degree in Education from Troy State University in Alabama.

After his time in the military, Danny went to work for Johnson and Johnson as a business representative responsible for millions of dollars in sales. Seeking greater purpose and challenge, Danny attended Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida. After passing the Florida Bar exam, he attended the nationally recognized, University of Miami School of Law LL.M. program in Estate Planning.

Upon graduation, he returned home to Tampa and began working for The Center for Special Needs Trust Administration and Boston Asset Management as Associate General Counsel. Wanting to practice law and help clients on a day-to-day basis, Danny later joined the Sanchez Law Offices in South Tampa. As a partner and the Chief Operating Officer, Danny led the Firm’s Litigation and Estate Planning Group.

In May of 2011, Danny formed The Alvarez Legal Group to help individuals whose voices are often drowned out in the legal system. While the Firm specializes in Personal Injury and Business law/litigation, a strong focus remains on Bankruptcy, Estate Planning and Entertainment Law. In an effort to help disabled U.S. Veterans, Danny helped form Accounting Resources and Management Services, LLC (ARMS) in 2013. Danny has a rare distinction of being a two-time Tampa Bay Business Journal Heroes At Work honoree (2014 and 2016.)  

In August of 2015, Danny was named the Hispanic Man of the Year by Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. In December of 2015, Danny was awarded the Al Gallon Ministries Community Service Person of the Year, which was chosen by a panel of 200 leaders in the African American Community.

Danny was an adjunct Business Law Professor at the University of Tampa for eight years. He is a member of the Florida Bar and is a graduate of the Hillsborough Bar Association Leadership Institute. In 2012, Danny was re-appointed by the Hillsborough County Commission to a second four-year term on the Hillsborough Children’s Services Advisory Board. In 2015, Danny was appointed by the Governor of Florida to sit on the Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority and in 2016 he was elected Secretary of the Board were he continues to serve. He is also the President of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Hispanic Advisory Board. He is a lifetime member of The Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, a perpetual member of several Masonic organizations in the Tampa Area and was member of La Casa Cuba de Tampa. In 2014, Commissioner Sandy Murman named him to the Hillsborough County Charter Review Board. He is admitted to practice in all Florida State Courts and the United States District Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida. 

In 2017, Danny joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Public Affairs Office and was quickly promoted to be their Chief Communications Officer. He was once again promoted to become the Special Projects Manager in charge of leading agency wide legacy projects that will impact the office and how it serves Hillsborough County for the next generations. Danny is a local and national speaker on subjects from leadership, motivation and communications.
